What counts as personal effects

Used household goods and belongings that you own and have used, for example:

  • Clothing
  • Books
  • Kitchenware
  • Bedding
  • Furniture
  • Bicycles
  • Personal electronics
  • Toys and hobby gear

Brand-new goods in commercial quantities are not personal effects and are cleared as a normal import.

Packing and your inventory list

  1. 1Pack in sturdy double-wall cartons, no heavier than one person can lift.
  2. 2Number every carton and list its contents on a simple inventory: carton 1 — winter clothing, carton 2 — books, and so on.
  3. 3Put a value against each line. Customs needs it, and it is the value a claim is settled on.
  4. 4Wrap furniture corners and glass. We can arrange crating for fragile items on request.

What it costs to ship your belongings

Personal effects travel by sea LCL at the same published rate as any other cargo, priced on volume, or on weight if that is heavier.

Check before you pack

Anything on the restricted list needs paperwork or cannot ship at all: liquids and aerosols, lithium batteries outside a device, food and plant products, medicines beyond a personal supply, and anything counterfeit.

GST on personal effects

GST at 9% is assessed on the declared value of your belongings — for an import that is the value on your inventory plus freight and insurance, not what the goods would fetch second-hand. Budget for it whether they are new or years old. We lodge the permit, pay the GST at clearance and pass it through at cost, so it appears as its own line rather than inside the freight rate.

Door delivery to an HDB flat or condo

We deliver into the flat, not just the lobby. When you book, tell us:

  • The floor, and whether a lift reaches it.
  • Whether the condo needs a loading-bay booking or a mover's permit.
  • Any delivery window the building enforces.
  • Stairs or narrow corridors for bulky items.

Shipping personal effects: common questions

How much does it cost to ship personal effects?
Sea LCL is S$82 per CBM hub to door, with a 1 CBM minimum. A studio's belongings are usually 2–4 CBM; a two-bedroom flat 6–10 CBM. Use the CBM calculator on the pricing page or send us your inventory.
Do I need to be in Singapore to receive it?
Someone needs to accept the delivery and sign — a family member or friend is fine. Give us their name and mobile when you book.
Can you collect from my flat in China?
Yes. Tell us the city and whether there is a lift. Collection is quoted separately, on top of the sea rate.
How long does it take?
Sea: 10–14 days from departure to your door. Air: 3–5 days. Allow a few extra days for collection in China and for your building's delivery slot.
Can you ship furniture?
Yes: sofas, beds, tables, wardrobes and boxed flat-pack. Furniture is priced like everything else, on volume, or on weight if heavier. Wrap corners and glass well; we can arrange crating for fragile pieces on request.
When do I pay?
When your belongings reach Singapore, before we deliver, by PayNow or bank transfer from your tracking page. There is no deposit and nothing to pay when you book.
